The Kim Family | Mill of Kintail, Almonte ON
The Kim Family
As the world starts to open up again, it’s been amazing to jump back into one of my favorite roles—an Ottawa family photographer—and start taking on family portrait sessions again during the week! I definitely missed shooting weddings during all of the lockdowns over the past year, but I also missed having the chance to photograph sweet families and their milestones. So naturally, the opportunity to capture the Kim’s family portraits in Almonte, ON in June was the best way to get back into the swing of things!
Amy reached out for the first time a few years ago to inquire about wedding photography, and unfortunately I wasn’t available for her wedding date. So it was such a pleasant surprise to hear from her again and to have the chance to work with her in a different context! I felt so thankful to have the chance to celebrate a different season of her family’s story.
We wanted to capture all of the summer vibes for this Almonte family portrait session, so we chose the Mill of Kintail as our backdrop for the shoot! This spot is a hidden gem, only 30 minutes outside of Ottawa. We took advantage of the diverse backdrops offered for this Mill of Kintail photo session, from trails to fields to streams! There is even an old wooden shed that offers a rustic setting. The Kims looked perfect surrounded by all of the fields, with golden sunlight peeking through the trees. I loved their summer-y and classy outfits, including baby boy’s darling overalls. They were the best models, and it was so fun to capture Amy and James’ precious interactions with their cute baby!
I especially loved getting to photograph the baby’s traditional garb to celebrate his first birthday; this was such a personal addition to the shoot and will be a wonderful family heirloom! I had an amazing time getting to know this little family and hope to have the chance to celebrate future family milestones with them as an Almonte family photographer.
