Who I Am, As a Photographer
Hi everyone!
I’m sure you’ve realized by now, but to start- my name is Chelsea Mason! The first question I am usually asked- what kind of photographer are you? I am a documentary photography with a clean, light and romantic editing style photographing in the Ottawa valley! Not only am I cost efficient, but I am always shooting with a creative perspective to make sure that your images aren’t repetitive and best suit YOU.
Your next question--why should I hire you? Well... All wedding packages include a complimentary engagement session, full printing rights, all edited photos and a photo book/boudoir credit! The complimentary engagement session is a great free service as not only good practice for your fiancee and yourself, but for myself to get to know the two of you! The full printing rights means that you are not required to purchase any prints off of me, you are given the rights to print any size of photo, anywhere you’d like. Most photographers only give you a certain size of photograph and you are required to purchase prints from them. You are given ALL edited images, you don’t have to pick and choose which ones you’d like. Finally, the 8 and 10 hour package include a second photographer! This is a wonderful add on as you’re given a second eye of the day. She is a trained professional who also studied photography. She’s been shooting with me for a few years now!
I have been behind the lens for about 7 years and now specialize in wedding photography! I shot my first wedding when I was sixteen years old and am now in my twenties, shooting over 30 weddings a SEASON! Not only am I an Ottawa based photographer- but also a destination wedding photographer! Last season, I had the privilege of travelling to Halifax, NS and Banff, Alberta to shoot weddings! Not to forget the pit-stops on the way such as Florida, New York, Toronto and Saskatchewan. My goal for the 2016 season was to receive one destination wedding but I am pleased to announce that I have achieved that goal of booking FOUR! This year, I will be heading British Columbia, New Brunswick, Mexico & Cuba to capture gorgeous beach and mountainside weddings.
Photography is an art that I am very passionate about, devoting all of my time and schooling towards it. With this being said, I am an Algonquin College graduate, from the Photography program! Being enrolled in the Algonquin Photography program was a great experience for me as I learned a lot about who I am as a photographer, what my company brand stands for and just all around business tips & ethics. When I was in the program, I met some great photographers and had the most amazing profs that I could ever ask for. In fact, one of the lovely ladies that I developed friendships with now works for me as a second photographer! (Read more about her and my other second shooters in my blog- under "The Team". I have also been accepted into the Professional Photographers of Canada team, which was a great surprise for me! I have also been featured in the Ottawa Wedding Magazine, in hopes to win a wedding award for this season.
After graduation, I've been able to focus on running my own business. Starting a business is easy- keeping it running is the hard part. Anyone can pick up a camera and label themselves as a photographer, but it takes a lot of commitment, effort and time to resemble one. It wasn't until 2014 that my photography business met its new heights- when I started to work for 2 additional companies. Working with these companies was a lot of fun, as I met tons of brides ranging from culture to culture. This was an AMAZING experience for me, being able to communicate and understand the different types of traditions!
Since the 2015 wedding season, I have committed to working with ONE company, my own! Last season, I shot 32 weddings, all through my own company. Being a full time wedding photographer has been an amazing opportunity for me and I've had the BEST COUPLES! I am so thankful for the trust, appreciation and love from each and every client that I have. Actually- let me rephrase that. I actually don't consider my "clients" to be "clients" but family. I wouldn't be where I am without them, and I am beyond grateful for the amount of love I've gotten from everyone and treasure all of the relationships that I've built.
For the past few years, I have also been an official photographer for National WE Day, which is an event ran through Free The Children. I am blessed to be apart of this organization and am so empowered by the motivation brought by children and performers across the world!
