Sparkles, Champagne + Vows || A NYE Wedding!
You know you love your job when you willingly spend a holiday working… and I’ve grown to love my work as an Ottawa wedding photographer so much that I happily shot a wedding on NYE—and at 34 weeks pregnant, at that! But having the chance to photograph such a sweet couple and wonderful celebration was absolutely worth the cold, uncomfortable pregnant belly, and giving up part of my holiday with family. Kate and Matty’s Lago wedding was gorgeous and so much fun!
It’s the best compliment when I book weddings that were referrals of past clients, so I was thrilled to see Marise, Kate’s maid of honour and a former Chelsea Mason Photography bride, again during bridal prep. All of the girls wore the cutest nighties, which was such a fun twist on the classic robe concept that I had never seen before. We had a blast chatting while photographing the classiest, shimmery bridal details (is that shoe color perfect or what?!), and in true NYE fashion, we popped some bubbly and threw glitter. It made for the BEST photos, but maybe didn’t make room service too happy when they had to come vacuum it up! ;)
Their first look was packed with emotion, which is so apparent in the photos. Matt loved her sleeved dress, but really, who wouldn’t?! We shot the wedding formals at the Museum of Nature since it was utterly freezing outside, and even though we had to share with another wedding party, you’d never guess in the photos! The groomsmen cracked me up as they scouted out the dinosaur exhibit for their portraits… so funny. We snuck outside and braved the arctic temperatures {and I'm talking "don't breathe for photos, because I can see your breath kind of arctic} for ninety seconds of bride and groom portraits outside at the Arboretum. I was standing in snow banks at 8 months pregnant, which was probably not the best scenario, but the photographs were totally worth it!
Matty and Kate’s ceremony was held at Lago and was very sentimental; Keith from All Seasons always puts on an amazing ceremony for his couples and their guests! After, I was only contracted to stay for a portion of the reception before I headed home to my little family, but I had blast! I learned a lot about Matt that I probably didn’t need to know during the speeches with his groomsman’s #MattFacts. In case you didn’t know, Matty can get pretty down and dirty to “Don’t Cha” by the PCD! He even gave us a little preview ;) See blog below ;)
Thank you for letting me be part of such a classy and fun NYE Wedding in Ottawa, Matty and Kate! Wishing you the best married 2018!
